Our History

The Lodge at Breckenridge

The Lodge at Breckenridge story starts in the 1970s when it was built as an Athletic Club, and the first fitness center in Breckenridge, for the local community on Boreas Pass Road.

In the 1980s, The Lodge and Spa at Breckenridge opened its doors as a 31-room hotel and restaurant while also offering spa treatments and fitness classes. The restaurant, then called The Overlook, was quickly established as a local’s favorite, offering comedy shows and shuffleboard.

In the 1990s, The Lodge introduced 14 new lodging rooms, including eight junior suites offering a larger living space, fireplace, and mini kitchenettes built to showcase the magnificent views of Breckenridge Ski Resort. This was also the time that The Lodge’s award-winning wedding venue was built. With sweeping panoramic views of the surrounding mountains, including the Ten Mile Range visible from the Sky View Deck, the space quickly became one of the top wedding venues in Breckenridge.

In the early 2000s, The Lodge welcomed its up-and-coming General Manager, Rhonda Wilson (Rhonda Profaizer at that time), who joined the team as the Executive Meeting Manager.

By 2009, The Lodge needed a facelift that the current owner could not take on, which resulted in the Lodge falling into a lien and becoming owned by the Lehman Brothers. In 2013, Guest Services, Inc. acquired The Lodge and has since elevated the property. Along with the change in ownership came a new name change to become simply “The Lodge at Breckenridge.”

In 2015, all rooms were updated with new furniture and fixtures and the restaurant was fully remodeled with a whole new concept called the Traverse Restaurant.

In 2022, The Lodge added 12 more lodging rooms in our old spa area as well as a guest lounge, a small meeting space, and employee housing. Additional updates were done to our current 45 guest lodging rooms, Traverse Restaurant, and our Ballroom. Some of our newly added rooms include a Mountain View 1 Bedroom King Suite, a Lodge 1 Bedroom King Suite and a Lodge 1 King Junior Suite; along with new rooms of some of our current room types. These rooms give a new modern look to The Lodge. We also created Employee Housing Units to help retain team members with the goal of getting all our services back to a full-time status. In this remodel we did remove the Spa and Fitness Center. Breckenridge offers many spas in town and for fitness activities, we recommend Breckenridge Recreation Center and any of the trails located right out our entrance at The Lodge.

While The Lodge at Breckenridge has changed over the years, the commitment to creating a WOW experience for all guests has remained consistent. Our team looks forward to continuing to welcome guests from all over the world to experience the highest standards of hospitality in the Rockies at The Lodge at Breckenridge.
